Kiana's Story

My name is Kiana Fleming. I am 24 years young.
I was diagnosed with Lupus in July 2011. After several emergency room visits finally I was admitted into Moses Cone. After several tests and seven days later the doctors came in and told me I had lupus SLE. At that time I knew nothing about lupus or the challenges I would face. The doctors asked me my goals in life and reassured me that I could live a normal life. My life has definitely changed since then. It was very hard for me to make some of these adjustments because I was still very young and wanted to do the same things my friends were doing. But I had to focus on other things like staying healthy and making lifestyle changes so I wouldn't be sick all the time. Lupus is very unpredictable. I could feel perfectly fine today and tomorrow when I wake up I might not be able to get out of bed. Even though most days "I don't feel good", I choose to take it one day at a time. With the support of my family and friends I will keep being a survivor of this horrible disease.
